Έχει πολλά στοιχεία το σενάριο από τους χαρακτήρες που αναπτύσσει η ταινία από το βιβλίο του Καζαντζάκη «ο τελευταίος πειρασμός» εδικά σε ότι αφορά τον ρόλο του Ιούδα και την πάλη των αντιθέτων μεταξύ του ανθρωπίνου και του Θεϊκού στοιχείου του Ιησού.
