A fashion phenomenon in the usa and later in france, this form of oriental dance is commonly known as "Belly Dance". Createed in the 19th century by some legionnaries, this term is however inappropriate as it places this oriental choreography to execute and whose geographical origins (egypt, mesopotamia, pacific islands) remain mysterioys.

However, it appears that in the time of Pharaohs, the same body language, despite a few differences was popular on the banks of the Nile, in Egypt where this sensual and reptillian practice has been safe guarded and developed. some musicals, through the talents of samiaGamal orTahyaCarioca, have granted to belly dance its popular and faschinating character. and although it has  lost its religious connections (in ancient times, people used to dance for their gods), belly dance gained some other spectacular aspects.
